The vessel is a scientific research platform, built in Leer, Germany in accordance with specific requirements for geological investigation of the Navy. Incorporated into active service in 1981, provides services to support marine scientific research conducted by the Research Directorate General of Shipping (Center for Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research - CIOH in Cartagena and Pollution Control Center of the Pacific - CCCP in Tumaco). Parallel develops naval operations in support of Navy in the Caribbean Sea and in the Colombian Pacific.
