Satellite Instruments
AVNIR-2 is a four-band (visible-and near-infrared) radiometer on the ALOS platform designed for observing land and coastal zones using a cross-track pointing. AVNIR-2 is an improved design on AVNIR that was on board ADEOS, having a greater IFOV and 10m spatial resolution images (vs 16m). Improved CCD detectors (AVNIR has 5,000 pixels per CCD; AVNIR-2 7,000 pixels per CCD) and electronics enable this higher resolution. The pointing angle of AVNIR-2 is +44/- 44 degrees. Observation is limited between 88.4 degree north latitude and 88.5 degree south latitude.
